Origen Cluster Meeting

March 17th, 2025, at 17:00 UTC

Dear AIEP/IAPS Members and Scholars of Origen,

We are pleased to announce the upcoming session of the Origen Cluster, a successful initiative launched in 2023 to connect scholars working on Origen of Alexandria.

About the Origen Cluster

The Origen Cluster was created to provide a regular virtual meeting space for scholars interested in Origen’s work. Since its inception in 2023, the Cluster has held four highly productive gatherings, each with 30-50 participants including both established academics and doctoral students. This initiative, while promoted by the AIEP/IAPS, functions as an open space rather than a closed group, allowing flexibility for scholars to participate based on their interests and availability.

The Cluster’s objectives are:

1. To share information about activities, projects, and publications related to Origen

2. To foster synergies for collaborative projects, publications, and activities

3. To strengthen the Origenian scholarly community through regular interaction

 Special Announcement

Due to the significant news regarding the upcoming Origeniana XIV conference (2026) that will be presented at this meeting, we extend a special invitation to all Origen scholars, including those who have not previously participated in the Cluster’s sessions. This represents an excellent opportunity to receive firsthand information about this landmark event in our field.

 Program

 The upcoming session will feature:

1. Prof. David Hunter (Boston College) sharing crucial announcements regarding the Origeniana XIV conference (2026).

2. Presentation by Prof. Alfons Fürst on the publication of Volume 25 of Origenes Werke mit deutscher Übersetzung (March 2025), which collects Origen’s letters, fragments, and testimonies for the first time in a single comprehensive publication.

3. Discussion of the special issue of Open Theology on “Gendered Allegories in Origen of Alexandria” (Edited by Dr. Lavinia Cerioni).
